We finished our egg experiment today.

We reviewed osmosis. After having the egg in a bath of water, the water moved through the membranes, increasing the size of the egg. You can equate this result to that of a ballon being inflated. There is just so much air that can be put into a balloon and that is the same with the membranes of the egg. Because of the pressure inside the egg; as soon as the membrane was pierced with a needle the water rushed out creating a "fountain."

Click on the pictures to enlarge them and see the "fountains" better, as well as the adorable and startled faces on the students :-)

During today's reading of Zorgamazoo, we came across the stalactites. We stopped and took a look at some pictures and discussed the formation of them and their counterparts; the stalagmite.

" It's marked on the map like a forest of horns,
like a cluster of bristles and thistles and thorns.
But they'll be up above us, on the roof of the cave.
If we want to get through, then we'll have to be brave.

They're stalactites, you see, that's what they're called.
But these, it would seem, have been badly installed."

This afternoon, some of the students recited Five Little Pumpkins, each playing one of the pumpkins.

Have a safe and fun weekend. See you back here on Day 50!
