Day 46

Welcome to our Day 46!

We looked at our limp and dehydrated eggs this morning. They looked so different and hardly looked like eggs anymore.

Since corn syrup has a lower concentration of water than an egg does, the water from the egg moved through the membrane and into the corn syrup to equalize the water concentration levels on both sides. Osmosis is an incredible thing :-)

The students completed a worksheet on the osmosis process and then the eggs were covered with water!

Put your thinking cap on. Can you guess what is going to happen?

We had 4 great rotations this morning.

Yesterday after lunch, as we read Zorgamazoo we came across a reference to Fred Astaire in this passage:

"He spun on his heel, and leapt in the air,
recalling the cadence of Freddy Astaire
but never as nimble, not nearly as spry
(more like a hippo with mud in its eye).
He leaped and he danced with his terrible tool!
He flourished and spun like a blathering fool!"

At the time, I told the students about Fred Astaire's fame as an actor, a singer, and a dancer. I found a video of Astaire dancing with Rita Hayworth and showed the students. It was fun to see the joyful look on most of their faces as the watched this:

After recess, we Made Words from the -ot and -ow families.

Wednesday is Day 47!
