Day 17

Our day began with students Shopping for Books. The students each have a box filled with 6-7 books for them, when they Read to Self. Periodically, they are asked to "shop." They place the books they no longer want in the return box, other books may go into the "hospital" if needed, and others still may remain with the student. They then replenish their box with new and interesting titles.

With the assistance of our calendar helpers we completed our daily calendar with weather, place value, odd and even numbers, as well as the coin chart.

We compared and contrasted the version of The Ugly Duckling, that we read yesterday, with the original from Hans Christian Anderson written in 1843. I explained that many of the stories they love from Disney are in actuality short stories written by Anderson.*

Today was also the day for our /Ss/ chart. Everyone put on their thinking caps and thought about the sound /Ss/ represents.

During the Daily 5 rotations there was a lot of Word Work going on and Spelling on the computer.

After recess, there was a request made, by Dakota, for me to read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. LOL what a fun story!

And then we watched a fun and colourful YouTube video by the same name.

We finished the day, with a Word Wall Word review and some sentence writing, emphasizing ending punctuation and beginning of the sentence capitalization.

Just a reminder:
