Day 18

We began the day with a celebration. It was Taniya's 5th birthday. Quite a milestone.

We sang Happy Birthday and then the students watched a bunch of animated mice play the song on the "Steinmouse" piano.

The students are getting better with the daily routine and the activities that we practice. The calendar helpers were enthusiastic and had a good time. Look at Anthony LOL

Liliana - today's weather

J'Shawn - coin chart

Megan - place value

Anthony - odd and even
Before continuing with our day, we had a brief discussion of what happened on September 11, 2001. We talked about how our country came together to help the families and friends of those who lost their lives, at the hands of terrorists. We concluded on a positive note by discussing the strength of the United States and how unique we are as a republic.

We continued with a reading of The Selfish Giant written by Oscar Wilde.

Giant was away from is home for 7 years. While he was away; the local children had fallen in love with the Giant's garden, the soft grass, beautiful flowers, tall trees for climbing, and the singing birds. But when Giant returned and saw all the children playing happily, he was very angry and told the children that they can no longer play there. Winter came to stay. Snow, Frost, Hail, and North Wind lived in the garden. There is no singing birds, no flowers, and complete sadness. There is a happy ending though :-)

We had cause to celebrate again. Both Liliana (K) and Dakota (K) began to read!

During Daily 5 rotations; Izabella and J'Shawn were diligent when choosing their Word Work for the day.

Lunchtime brought pizza for Taniya's birthday.

Birthday Girl!

This afternoon we created more Word Wall Word sentences.

And lastly, we read Jack and the Beanstalk.
