Day 4

Day 4 was incredible! There were so many little success stories; I cannot even note them all.

After completing our calendar mathematics, in the gathering area, we read Stone Soup. We started by discussion a kettle and why the soldiers had to use a fire to cook the soup.

With our empty chart with began to read the book and add pictures of some of the ingredients that the soldiers and the peasants put into the kettle.

After we added the ingredients to the kettle we matched the words with the pictures.

We completed a graph that asked, "Which soup ingredient do you like best?" Overwhelmingly, carrot was the ingredient of choice.

We built a lot of stamina today! The students got up to 14 minutes of reading to themselves! And celebrated by doing our Stamina Cheer.

"One, two, three, STAMINA!"

You can tell they were excited by the amount of movement in this picture :-)

During a brief intermission as we transitioned; J'Shawn took the opportunity to talk to Nathan about the students' "jobs" during Read to Self. J'Shawn pointed to each of the jobs on the chart and read them perfectly to Nathan.
