Notebooking - Day 1

We began notebooking in our Language Arts composition books yesterday!

We shared a writing “mini lesson” with the purpose of removing the pressure to write.

We began by talking about the stages of writing (from scribbling to writing full sentences) and the difference between the way younger and older children write. To broach the topic, I brought up the idea of their younger and older siblings and the way that they write.

I drew a line down my overheard projector "paper" and then across, creating four rectangles on the page. In each rectangle, I illustrated a different stage of writing and students attempted to duplicate each of the stages. With plenty of encouragement, many of the students caught on quite easily.

Here are a few examples.
