It is Veterans' Day!
We used the morning to concentrate on Veterans' Day. We discussed veterans--What is a veteran? What is the military? What do military men and women do?
We read sentences about veterans and Veterans' Day and graphed them using the correct ending punctuation.
We stopped to watch the laying of the wreath at Arlington Memorial Cemetery.
My favourite part of reading chapter books to the students is "playing" the part of each character.
Today, as we read Creature Department, the students got their first glimpse at Jean-Remy Chevalier the Chief of Fiddly Bitology (and yes I did spell that correctly). Jean-Remy is "half ze fairy, half ze vampire. It iz not what zey call traditional coupling..." and all French. I LOVE playing Jean-Remy!
After recess, we made Word Wall Word sentences. We discussed and practiced beginning sentences in different ways to make them more interesting.
"Vous voir demain," Jean-Remy said dramatically.
Day 62 is up next!
