Where was SWEETPUFFS today? He must have had "some" night because the students found him, face down in an almost empty box of candy canes. He made another mess today -- little pieces of peppermint and plastic wrapping all over the place.
Luckily, SWEETPUFFS left us enough candy canes for our science experience--Candy Cane Science--where we compared how fast candy canes dissolved in different temperatures of water.
As soon as we placed the candy canes in water, the water started to turn pink. The warm water was the brightest colour followed by the room temperature water. The cold water has just a faint pink colour.
We saw some bubbles rising from the candy as they began to dissolve. The candy canes all eventually dissolves at different times. After 3 and a half minutes, the red stripe dissolved from the candy cane int the warm water. It took 7 minutes for the room temperature candy cane and 12 minutes for the candy cane in the cold water.
After 23 minutes, the candy cane in the warm water was completed dissolved. it took 27 minutes for the room temperature water and 39 minutes in cold water.
After the experiment, we thought of a lot of things that are as red as Rudolph's nose.
Our holiday card exchange card is complete and ready to print and then send out.
Below is the original photos that I took and then photoshopped for the finished product.
