Day 84

The students found SWEETPUFFS, on the Word Wall under the letter /Ee/.

Tonight he will travel back to the North Pole and give his final report to Santa.

Before all the festivities began, we read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

In addition to the many treats we received from you, there was a homemade standout.

Nathan's grandmother made candy sleighs for the class and the teachers.

Santa arrived and we saw 2 new trends. Some of the student would not sit on Santa's lap and some would only whisper their gift requests.

When Santa received the gift requests for everyone, the students all sang for him.

We had a lovely brunch, but I was too busy cooking dozens and dozens of eggs to take pictures.

We hope that you have a happy and blessed holiday.

See you back here on Day 85 in 2015!

Day 83

It was difficult to find SWEETPUFFS because he blended into the Place Value chart -- red on red.

We received 1 holiday card exchange card from Iowa this morning. And we marked it on our map (the purple star).

After our calendar time, we read 2 Christmas books -- The Wild Christmas Reindeer and The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Later, the students watched How the Grinch stole Christmas.

The students are looking forward to Day 85 for many reason. See you than!

NOTES and REMINDERS:

  • Remember Pajama Day and our annual brunch is tomorrow! We need you to bring a treat but Miss Osberg and I will provide everything else.
  • Santa will be here on Friday also!
  • Folders will not be returned on Friday. They will be safe in the classroom while the students are off for the holiday.
  • If you want to get a head start on Week #17 homework, that will be due on January 9, 2015, I have already posted it on the homework page.
  • Please try to practice Word Wall Words and other skills while away for the holidays!

Day 82

That silly elf. He is just hanging around today.

The iceman did not fair too well last night. All that is left is water and garbage :-)

You can certainly tell that a holiday is coming :-) I think you know what I mean.

Day 83 is coming up. And there are only 17 school days until we will celebrate our 100th day of school!

NOTES and REMINDERS:

  • Remember Pajama Day and our annual brunch will be on Friday, December 19, 2014. We need you to bring a treat but Miss Osberg and I will provide everything else.
  • Santa will be here on Friday also!

Day 81

Look how creative SWEETPUFFS was! He was cutting snowflakes and tying them to our tree, but it looks like he got all tangled up on his ascent. Good try, SWEETPUFFS :-)

We looked through 8 more cards for a total of 25 cards. We received cards from New Jersey, New York, Kansas, South Carolina, Alabama, Wisconsin, Vermont, and Ottawa, Canada.

The new locations are represented by the green stars.

Hanukkah begins at sunset this evening. The students and I have been talking a little about the holiday since they saw the menorah picture on the calendar. This morning, they watched a short video about the lighting of the menorah.

And then we watched a fun dancing video called We're Lighting the Menorah :-)

Before rotations, I presented the class with their very own snow iceman that I made from frozen water balloons. We watch it throughout the day to see how long it took for it to melt. I placed it in the room at 10:00.

During rotations, the first graders played the gingerbread man dice game.

The winner was Anthony :-)

By 12:00 the iceman looked like this...

...and by 1:30, he had fallen over and made a splash.

When the students came in from afternoon recess, they discovered that SWEETPUFFS had descended from the the top of the tree.

By 3:00 our iceman looked like 3 ice balls with a few discarded decorations :-( Very sad.

Wednesday is Day 82. We look forward to more fun!

Day 80

Look what that silly elf did today!

We opened 5 more cards today (for a total of 17). The cards came from Texas (2), Ohio, Colorado, and Illinois.

We placed pins on the map for each of the school locations. The blue stars represents the new cards we received.

Later in the day, we read the holiday classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

We also completed a fun Christmas 100-Chart.

During our rotations, Nora, Tyler, and Nathan played a holiday dice game. They rolled the die and coloured the corresponding number. The first one that completed their gingerbread man won. Nathan was the winner!
