This morning, the students cut out Halloween words and glued them into their Language Notebooks according to where they appear within the alphabet (A-M or N-Z).
Today's book was Jeb Scarecrow's Pumpkin Patch. Students were not as enthusiastic today with the story because they were anticipating the arrival of pizza :-) Pizza definitely trumps reading :-)
We began discussing plot, setting, and characters in books.
After reading Mrs. McNosh and Her Great Big Squash; students answers questions about the story and we talked about the problems and the solutions to those problems.
Students played a team game this morning - 5 teams of 3 (there were 2 students absent). First Graders were the team leaders and they took turns picking their 2 team mates.
The game was a mix of Mathematics, Phonic, and general knowledge questions. All the students did very good but Team Kaidynce (Kaidynce, Ty, and Destiny) came out the winners with 19 correct answers.
This morning, Kaidynce successfully completed the subtraction problems in XtraMath! She demonstrated a mastery of the subtraction table by answering all basic subtraction facts in under 3 seconds! Kaidynce earned a Brag Tag, a certificate, and applause from her classmates.
Kaidynce is the first student, this year, to beginning multiplication! Yes, that is what I wrote! A first grade will be starting MULTIPLICATION!
Today was the first of many days were we will use Time for Kids.
This issue was called Fall for Apples. After we read and discussed the text we completed an activity where students completed patterns using apples and markers.
Using 6 primary and secondary coloured squares and 6 large squares, students put them together to make different colour combinations that showed contrast. Then they coloured worksheets to reflect the colour combinations that they made.
