Sale on Supply List Items!
If you haven't seen the Target and Office Depot ads for this week, here are some pages from them. They have pencils, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, and coloured pencils on sale as well as, composition books.
Where Do You Sit?
It is a little thing, but name plates on tables on the first day of school make children feel like they belong.
I like to create my own so that they fit my classroom needs and I can change them any time I feel the desire to do so.
Here are the name plates that will adorn the tables on the first day of school. They match the owl theme that I have been developing.
Helping Hands
If
you want to teach children to be responsible, you have to trust them with
responsibilities. Classroom jobs are an effective way to enlist students in the
duties of running a classroom and to let them learn personal responsibility as
well as have a personal stake in the classroom. Throughout the school year,
students will have jobs within the classroom community. These jobs will change monthly and there will be "substitutes" to provide backups when the primary helper is absent or unavailable.
HOOT
Let me introduce HOOT!

On the first day of school,
your child will be given a HOOT (Helps
Organize Our Things) that will
travel with them to and from school every day. The HOOT
will be your number one means of communicating with me this school year. Any
notes, comments, etc. should be sent to me inside the HOOT in the
For Teacher section. I will check the folders each morning for notes
from you and on Friday for homework.

Necessities - Word Wall Words
On the left sidebar, there is a list of links called Necessities. Necessities are those items you may need during the school year. You may need a replacement list of spelling words or a new piece of writing paper. Most of the things you may need are right here.
I am currently updating items for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. As I finish the updates; I will create a post informing you of the changes and/or additions.
Today, I updated the Word Wall Words by Week list and I uploaded a .pdf document to make it easy for you to print if it is needed. The link for this document is in the Necessities section on the sidebar.

Composition Books = Notebooking
You may be wondering why 4 black and white composition books are on our class' supply list. Well, I will tell you. This year we are going to be Notebooking by subject area.
Children learn so much when they are using more of their senses while learning new concepts. Notebooking is student-created and teacher-directed. The notebook is a simple tool that allows students to have control over their studies, as well as the ability to go back and look through past concepts presented. With Notebooking, students do not have to remember all the details on a topic, but can refresh their memories by looking at the pictures that they have drawn and small notes that were added to a page.
Changes
In the next week, I am going to be updating the look of the blog. So when you come back, from day to day, you may be greeted with multiple looks and some things that are not quite working properly.
Be assured, the blog will be working correctly before school begins!
