This morning we made sock puppets in celebration of Silly Sock Day. The cute puppy dogs are going home with the students. Wait until you see them. They are adorable.
100% Homework Club
March's homework was due today. Dhruv, Robert, Alexis, and Tiana completed all their homework from February and March and received brag tags!
Great job!
Minecraft Writing
For over year students have had a blast with the game Minecraft. They like to talk and write about the game. Since it is best to write about what they know; this game is a great topic for new writers.
Long A.....
...vase
We have been working with long vowel sounds and how the long vowels "say their name." Today, Kaidynce made this lovely vase for me.

A 6-year-old Virginia girl
is on her way to the Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee after being crowned
the 34th Prince William County Spelling Bee
champion on Friday.
Lori Anne Madison, of
Woodbridge, Va., beat out 21 of the best spellers from elementary and middle
schools in Prince William County, Va., during the competition Friday at Mills
E. Godwin Middle School in Dale City.
"It's hard to put into
words really . . . but at the least I felt great," she told Fox affiliate
WTTG-TV in an interview.
"I was confident
because I have been in spelling bees with older kids before and I judge them by
who they are, not about age," she said.
Lori, who is home-schooled,
will travel with her parents to Washington, D.C., for the May 29 to June 1
Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee, sponsored by the News & Messenger
newspaper and the Bel Air Woman's Club.
The girl said she credits
her memory and parents' help in spelling challenging words, like
"vaquero," the Spanish translation of cowboy, which is more commonly
used in Texas.
"My parents quiz me, I
read lists and I have a really good memory," she told the station.
Teamwork Fun
The students were introduced to sudoku puzzles this week. These puzzles are a very good brain workout and they increase critical thinking skills.
Today, the students solved three puzzles in teams -- Team Dhruv and Team Robert.
Throughout the exercise the teams were neck-and-neck and in the end they finished at the same time. Each team took a different tack but came out tied.

Our Visitor
Today we had a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog. The students were thrill to shake his hand paw and give him a hug.

XtraMath Update
I predict that this week one or more students will get an XtraMath certificate. Three students are soooo close.
Good luck to First graders Dhruv and Robert and Kindergarten student Tiana!
Let's see who gets their certificate first! It is exciting!

Monthly Poem
The March wind roars
Like a lion in the sky,
And makes us shiver
As he passes by.
When winds are soft,
And the days are warm and clear,
Just like a gentle lamb,
Then spring is here.
